Lamsan Power Corporation is the renewable energy unit of the Lamsan group of companies. It was recently established to take part in the government’s initiative to promote the use of renewable resources in generating power as well as support the Bangsamoro region by investing right at the heart of one of the most marginalized regions in the country.
Lamsan Power Corporation traces its roots from its sister company, Lamsan Inc. Starting from the early 80s, Lamsan Inc. has already developed the capacity to use biomass as an energy source, initially as a boiler fuel to produce steam for use at its corn wet milling plant. Lamsan Inc. operated a German Standard Kessel rice husk-fired process steam boiler for over 30 years. This operation gave them the experience and track record in buying rice husk from local suppliers. Since Lamsan Inc. offered a fair price for what was considered a waste by-product of rice milling, the company did not have a problem in sourcing enough rice husk for its operations.
The success of the rice husk- fired boiler gave Lamsan Inc. the confidence to initiate their own biomass cogeneration system in 2008. At this time, Mindanao was already having power supply problems during the summer months. Power costs were also increasing which made self-generation a viable option for the company while at the time accommodating the growing requirement of steam and power as it was expanding its operations.
Having had experience from that, Lamsan Power Corporation was then founded. Lamsan Power Corporation is a
Department of Energy and
ARMM-Regional Board of Investments registered corporation. Its on-going projects include a 1x15mW biomass-fired power plant and a 1x5.5mW/57tph steam cogeneration plant.
The 15mW power plant is already a DOE and RBOI registered project. Construction is well under way and is expected to be completed and commissioned by the first quarter of 2016.
The 5.5mW/57tph steam cogen plant is undergoing registration with both the DOE and RBOI. It is now under planning, engineering and procurement phase. This project is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2017.
